Polaris World resorts updates - January 2009

Here is a short update on all of the resorts (except Las Terrazas – see below)

Condado de Alhama Golf Resort

Work continues on the golf course, Las Islas, the Jana villas and the El Foro resort centre.
Las Islas – a considerable amount of work has been completed since our last visit in late November. The lake surrounding Las Islas has been excavated and is in the process of being lined and several of the infinity style communal pools are under construction. The main structure of the apartments is now complete and rendered. Delivery scheduled for May/June 09.
Final finishing off of the gardens surrounding the Jana villas was going ahead during our visit and these will soon be ready. We also saw the El Foro resort centre which is much larger than we had remembered from our last visit – maybe because it is now largely bricked rather than just a concrete skeleton. El Foro will be arranged in a large square with a large courtyard and reflecting pool in the centre – following on the “Moorish” style for this resort.
We had a long conversation with the Polaris who gave us the following interesting snippits regarding Condado de Alhama…
2000 trees are in the process of being planted, lakes filled and golf course seeding continuing.
Golf course – 9 holes due to open June/July 09 – 18 holes November 09
Driving range and practice holes open July 09
El Foro resort centre due to open May/June 09
Temporary golf clubhouse ready June/July 09
Polaris broadband and cable TV (UK channels) within 2 months

El Valle Golf Resort

The clubhouse is now fully functional and houses the Wood House bar, El Asador restaurant, Clover Irish bar, gym and supermarket. Views from the terrace are stunning and we have loaded a section into the El Valle section of the website with photos.

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort

The golf course is looking really good now and is very different in style to the other resorts, with a great sense of space. We have been assured by Polaris that permissions to go ahead with the resort centre have now been granted (this was considerably delayed because of changes required to the existing Hacienda – a listed building) and work should commence shortly. La Torre Golf Resort

The 5 star Intercontinental hotel opened briefly for a new years gala ball (with actor/director Woody Allen providing the main entertainment – he also has a jazz band). It closed for final fitting out and will re-open before Easter. (all of the sun loungers are already laid out and peering in through the windows the restaurants look all ready to go. The resort centre is therefore essentially complet So I took some time to take a few photos of the hotel, restaurants etc and have loaded them onto the La Torre section of the site.

Mar Menor 2 Golf Resort

Work continues on the apartments and villas. Several of the apartment blocks look ready to go and Polaris are hoping to have a show apartment available in the next 6 weeks. It has never been easy to obtain photos here and Polaris are in the process of extending the security wall around the new section which will make photos from outside almost impossible. However, I was able to squeeze a few photos between the fencing and have uploaded them onto the site in the Mar Menor section.

Terrazas de La Torre Golf Resort

Security is still strong at this resort – due to the construction work still continuing. We left our visit to Las Terrazas until the end of our trip and though in the past, there was someone on site who could accompany us into the resort, the rules have now changed and we now have to make an appointment for someone from head office to let us in. So unfortunately we were not able to get onto site this time. We will make an appointment for our next visit and update you then.

Summary

Looking from the UK with all the bad press, it’s quite easy to become very concerned regarding building developments in Spain. While it is true that everything has slowed down sales-wise for off plan in Spain at present and all developers are feeling the pinch, Polaris are still continuing to build as they are well funded. Looking at the overall progress that Polaris have made and the fact that they have already delivered so much, we still have confidence that they will continue to deliver in the future.
