General Tourist Information for the Region of Murcia

The Region of Murcia is a beautiful area of Spain, locally known as the ‘Market Garden of Spain’ as the rich soil, irrigation techniques and warm climate makes ideal conditions for growing all types of salad vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, rice and of course grapes.

Located between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca, Murcia has many unspoilt beaches along the Costa Calida (warm coast).

The region boasts 320 days of sunshine per year and average temperatures of 17 degrees in the winter and 27 degrees in the summer months

The Region is also rich with towns and cities with historic buildings, some dating back to the Romans and before. They also have modern shops, street markets and leisure facilities to offer the visitors.

The Spanish culture of Cuisine, Fiestas and Siestas remains unspoilt, as the tourist trade in this area is largely made up of Spanish visitors.

The governing bodies, the Town Halls, in this region are very anxious to protect the national heritage of their sierras (mountains) salinas (salt lakes) beaches and grasslands and have allocated huge areas to be National and Regional Parks.

They will not allow building of any kind in these designated areas, maybe they have benefited from the hard lesson learned in other parts of Spain, where they appear to have built properties at the expense of the flora and fauna and quality of life.

Access - Tourist Information

The coastal villages and towns have been visited by Spanish holiday makers for many years and have all the facilities of Marinas, Bars, restaurants, watersports etc. but it is only since the EU has invested large amounts of money into the upgrading of roads, bridges and airports that this area has become accessible to visitors from the UK and Northern Europe.

The low cost flights to Alicante and Murcia Airports also make this almost a weekend destination for the UK visitor or homeowner.

Hidden Gems - Information for Tourists

We have spent all of our spare time travelling the area, discovering it’s treasures, whether it is an old monastery, a secluded restaurant over hanging a tiny cove, the best fish restaurants in the area, mountain trails and lots lots more. We would like to share all of these treasures with you. If you like the area, we will find you the property.

Town Hall Investment

It does not take the visitor long to realise that much money is being spent in this area, with the development of massive projects such as deep water Marinas in the Mediterranean, stylish new tourist information centres and shopping centres, miles of new tiled promenades, hundreds of palm trees and green areas as well as numerous golf courses. This indicates to us that this area will not only have all the modern facilities that the best resorts in Spain have, but also retain it’s natural heritage, cultural inheritance, landscape and traditions.
